The Foremost Requirement

A Portfolio with A Professional Touch & Presentation for Beginners and Established Models and Actors

Please read this information:

A professionally designed Composite Card (CompCard) / Book / ZED Card is one of the foremost requirements to step into the modeling world. So much of money is spent on promoting services and products by going in for professional help and guidance. Why people want to join the field of modeling or acting? They have an inner belief and conviction that they have a certain talent to reach the top. Beauty or special looks can not be described in words, hence the need for photographs. There are so many who share with us or clients their webcam photos or family photos shot on holidays or some party or casually by some photographically untrained family members. The person desirous of modeling and acting career knows the difference between such casually taken photographs and by professional photographers. Just to save some money is being peeny wise pound foolish. Composite Cards (CompCard) / Books / ZED Cards are there to promote oneself to get assignments and it is the same for old hands as well who keep on enlarging their profile regularly with new and different looks to beat the competition. This is a fiercely competitive profession / business with no guarantees even with the best of the portfolio by the best of the photographers, LUCK is the biggest factor, but one has to make genuine and proper efforts to be successful as in any field.

Digital is the preferred format today as film/analog is nearly out of fashion. It is very interactive to get the best results. Good 90% 'wanna-be-models' face a clinical studio environment with lights, backdrops, makeup artist, stylist and other gadgets for the very first time in life and feel lost like in an alien world. To be frank the setup in the studio is much different than found at a FNP (friendly neighborhood photoman) studio. We have all been there and still go to get oursleves photographed for providing pictures for official various requirements. They know their job well and are well versed with the specific requirements of the government & visa sections of different countries. It does take a little time to settle down and feel comfortable. Much also depends on the photographer to make the first timer comfortable helping to shed that 'stage fright' to give the best of poses and expressions.

Another thing that has been found with regards to wardrobe and looks make over is that models come with a fixated idea that this dress or that make up or hair style will not go and they remain adament in not cooperating with the professionals at hand. One has to have a broad and open mindset to do good in modeling or acting. One has to wear what is in vogue in the industry at that particuar time. One has to keep strides with the industry requirements, and those who falter never take off at all or slide down with no work. It is glamor, it is show biz and I am sure one wants to get in to this to get all the attention, to be the best and top talent for a long uninterrupted innings.

One thing most important is to seek permission from family, immediate friends, boy or girl friends and all those who matter when deciding to enter in to the fray of modeling. This I say because at the time of portfolio development these are some reasons cited in not wearing certain dresses, hair style, makeup and poses. If photograhed then later reverting to the photographer to delete or not to showcase / share those photos to get work. It is like trying to wipe out that particuar part of their life when they were madly wanting to a model / actor. This kind of amateurishness has no place in the professional world..

As already mentioned it is LUCK that counts in every aspect of our life. Efforts are made to get work, but these get matured soley at the discretion of the clients. Every person has great special looks and we all judge accroding to our tastes and requirements of a script, as such the clients want helps market their products and services. So it is an investment made when one gets a portfolio developed and many a times the expected returns are not seen coming. as such the photographer should not be blamed. Surely there are many who would incite to say the porfolio was not good, but do say to get a job for themselves. Quite a lot of such people are surviving on these tricks.

Models generally come with a great mood of expections but the suspense and anxiety builds up temporarily in the mind of the first timer, when first put under the brush of a make up artist and then the lighting setup. The digital has been a great help in putting at ease a model. With a few frames shot and viewed instantly on the monitor helps in building up the confidence of a model. The discussion about expression, pose, etc. makes a model involved and helps in confidence building. The suspense fades, quickly everything settles in the right place. The mind is once again very positive. The confidence level shoots up with each image framed. The environment that initially looked so strange and over crowded with equipment starts to look friendly. The commercial shoots have more people, more commentators (clients, agency fellas, hangers one, stylist, etc) and more chaotic than a portfolio shoot. nothing to worry as this shoot readies in some ways. My handling of the models brings out the best from the raw beginners.

I believe 100% participation of the person being photographed is very important, as without it the best of the photographer's photographic talents and efforts seem to go waste. The form of cooperation a photographer seeks from the sitter is enthusiasm, expressions, flexibility in posing with the mind and body coordination. Such a cooperation is very necessary from the model's side to help get good creative images.

The bond between the photographer and the subject gets stronger with each recorded image. It is also in the interest of the model to end a session with high percentage of good expressions and creative poses recorded. It is most satisfying for both the model and the photographer to end on a high note. Innovative, attentive, imaginative, cooperative, creative, professional and with no nonsense attitude models have a greater chance of a long successful career than those having just 'the looks'.
There are so many entrepreneurial off shoots from modeling that any model with a sensible head can have the finest future.

Today we are not dependent on ink-jet or laser quality prints, but we now have the latest digital print technology where we get prints on real photographic paper, which is water proof and durable.

In the picture composite at the top is the kind of the professional presentation that I give for the price charged by me. I make life easy for models by giving all images and composites in the correct size for Internet use. The pictures supplied are on photographic paper.

  • Please note that quite a number of frames are shot when photographing people. So if some asks you to submit three or four pictures, be assured these are selected from many frames. The reason being is to get the right look, expressions and matching pose as such many frames are shot as each sitter reacts differently before the camera. Some are shy, some are very conscious, some are nervous but very few are natural and so the many frames a photographer has to shoot to be able to choose the right picture from a series.
  • If some one is strictly looking for just a few frames, better visit your FNP (Friendly Neighborhood Photoman) Studio.

I at my own cost supply profiles of my models to select few model coordinators, who in their turn try to promote the model. They get directly in touch with you and bring in the offers of assignments. Here the model is in no way bound to accept work that does not suit and can be softky declined. They would let you know what will be paid for the assignment. For me there is no financial sharing with them in any of the projects. This is done just get assigments for my models by these professionals whose main business is model coordination or events managment.
